How’d this get out?

The Associated Press has leaked a bit of good news from the war front. This is odd, given that the mainstream media has for the longest time only given us the bad news. Perhaps they’re providing cover for the Democrats to jump over to the winning side (the U.S.). I honestly don’t know.

At any rate, General David Petraeus is prepared to start sending troops home from Iraq. I guess things are going pretty well over there in Iraq. According to the AP,

One of most significant shifts for U.S. forces recently has been recruiting allies among former Sunni insurgents areas such as the western Anbar province. “A pretty big deal,” said Petraeus.

“You have to pinch yourself a little to make sure that is real because that is a very significant development in this kind of operation in counterinsurgency,” he added.

“It’s all about the local people. When all the sudden the local people are on the side of the new Iraq instead of on the side of the insurgents or even al-Qaida, that’s a very significant change.”

Remember, though, that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid back in April proclaimed that we had lost the war, and that the troop surge was not working.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin points out that, despite good news occasionally seeping out, the mainstream press is still willing and able to turn out a propaganda piece every once-in-a-while.
