Reverend Jeremiah Wright — another hypocritical rich liberal
A two-week Fox News investigation, however, has uncovered where Wright will be spending a good deal of his time in retirement, and it is a far cry from the impoverished Chicago streets where the preacher led his ministry for 36 years. Fox News has uncovered documents that indicate Wright is about to move to a 10,340-square-foot, four-bedroom home in suburban Chicago, currently under construction in a gated community.” The price of the home is 1.6 million dollars.
You have to love these liberals. You have the Obama’s out telling the rest of us we have to sacrifice, while their tax records show they give very little of their own income to charity. You have Michelle Obama telling voters not to go for the big money, while she and her husband have become millionaires. And you have the anti-America, anti-rich pastor Jeremiah Wright about to move into a $1.6 million home. So while these liberals are out trashing America and capitalism, America and capitalism have been very good to them.

The Pianist
Last Friday, I had the opportunity to watch The Pianist — a 2002 film about a Polish Jew named W?adys?aw Szpilman, who spent several years hiding from the Nazis in Warsaw during World War II. Szpilman was a piano player whose memoir provides the basis of the film. I’ve never read the actual memoir, but from what I have read about Szpilman’s trials, the movie stays pretty close to the actual story. At any rate, The Pianist is one of the best Holocaust-related movies I have ever seen — right up there with Schindler’s List. The things European Jews did to stay alive during that time, and the risks non-Jews took in saving what Jews they could, never stop amazing me.
A 23-year wait…Memphis Tigers are in the Final Four…the “experts” blow it again
It was March, 1985. The #2-seeded Memphis State Tigers, coached by Dana Kirk and led on the court by senior forward Keith Lee, defeated the #1-seeded Oklahoma Sooners 63-61 to advance to the Final Four. They were defeated in their semifinal game 52-45 by eventual national champion Villanova. I was 15 years old.
The Tigers had not been back since — until today.
Despite making the elite eight in 1992, 2006, and 2007, the Tigers could not get over that next hurdle — until today, when the #1-seeded Tigers blew out #2-seeded Texas, in Houston, 85-67. Once again, the Tigers, now 37-1, have defied the experts, most of whom chose Texas to represent the South Region in this year’s Final Four, which meets in San Antonio next Saturday.
The missing ingredient? Derrick Rose. With this year’s squad returning almost all of last year’s team that ended up with a #2 seed, and reached the elite eight, only to lose to #1 Ohio State, the singular addition of the freshman point guard finally pushed the Tigers over that hurdle, and into the Final Four.
The Tigers, who, I am told, cannot shoot free throws, made 30-of-36 from the charity stripe today, and dominated Texas about every way you can dominate a team on the basketball court.
Next up, UCLA. The winner will play for the national championship. I hope the “experts” stick to their script and pick UCLA to win.

Next up, Texas
The Memphis Tigers, who always seem to end up the underdog despite their #1 seeding and 36-1 record, obliterated the Michigan State Spartans last night 92-74 in a regional semifinal game that was over by halftime. Tomorrow we play the Texas Longhorns in a #1 vs. #2 matchup to determine who will represent the South Region in the Final Four. It’s Memphis’ third consecutive elite eight appearance, although it has been 23 years since they were in the Final Four.
Last night’s first half was perhaps the best half of basketball I have ever witnessed in 26 years as a Tiger fan. After having their lead trimmed to 16-13, the Tigers closed the half on a 34-7 run to go up 50-20. Oh yeah, and the Tigers, who can’t shoot free throws, shot 74% from the charity stripe (26-for-35) in temporarily silencing the know-it-all sports media, who hyped up a possible return by Michigan State to the Final Four as a #5 seed. I can’t quite figure out how Memphis continues to be the underdog, but it sure has served us well.
Michelle Obama: America is stereotypical and ignorant
This woman absolutely hates the country that enabled her and her husband to get rich. And yet Senator Obama is supposed to unite the country that his wife is out there trashing, asking if we are ready for “change.” If “change” means we can get rid of rich liberals who trash the country and the system that enabled them to become rich, then I’m certainly ready for it.
The sports media don’t know any more than the rest of us
My point is this. The sports media are so caught up in their own self-importance that they don’t recognize that someone like my own ten-year-old can fill out a set of brackets, and do just as well predicting winners as these experts that we’re supposed to check with. In other words, the sports media are just like the rest of the media.
Now that I’m off my soapbox about the utterly useless sports media, the Memphis Tigers resume their quest for the final four tomorrow night against Michigan State. The Tigers had little difficulty in slipping past Texas-Arlington last Friday, winning 87-63. But a good defensive effort by Mississippi State two days later, coupled by poor free throw shooting by Memphis, made our second round contest a little more challenging. The Tigers won 77-74, but it was one of those wins that you don’t feel so good about afterwards. Now we’re down to the regional semifinals, which is where the men are separate from the boys.
I have a dream
I have this dream that the GOP will somehow gain at least four House seats this November and capture a majority. I have an even BIGGER dream that every Republican will actually vote for a Republican as Speaker of the House, and that the new Speaker will be Stacey Campfield. I also have a dream that Speaker Campfield will run the House with the same heavy-handedness that Speaker Naifeh has run it the past two decades. Specifically,
1. Every committee will have a Republican majority and a Republican chairman. Additionally, no Republican who ever voted for Jimmy Naifeh as Speaker will hold a chairmanship or any position of leadership.
2. Speaker Campfield will do Jedi mind tricks on the Democrats and convince 8 or 9 of them that he is really their friend and that they should cross over every two years and vote to keep him the Speaker. These crossover Democrats will also sprint to the Speaker’s chambers after every Democrat caucus meeting and inform Speaker Campfield what the Democrats are up to.
3. Following the 2010 census, the House, Senate, and Congressional districts will be heavily gerrymandered in the GOP’s favor.
4. Democrat bills will be immediately deep-sixed in committee.
5. In a room full of Democrat-raised hands, Speaker Campfield will look out and say “I only see two hands.”
6. When criticized for his lock-step partisanship, Speaker Campfield will merely shrug and say “The House is the House.”
A cartoon is worth a thousand words
Thank you, Representative Campfield, for at least trying
Just discovered
I am a subscriber to Answers magazine, which is published by the Christian organization Answers in Genesis — the same organization that built the Creation Museum near Cincinnati which opened last year. I found in my most recent Answers publication that AiG has an online journal, containing more technical, peer-reviewed articles, called Answers Research Journal that is an excellent resource on the goings-on in the discipline of creation science.
You can watch Ken Ham begin to explain where God came from in the video (part 1 of 11) below, with an introduction by the late, great Jerry Falwell.
Rush the vote
Democrats are livid now that Republican voters are employing dirty tricks, even though the Democrats wrote the book on dirty tricks. And — get this — there is even a legal threat in at least one state to go after Republicans who register as Democrats for voter fraud. In other words, Democrats are doing exactly what they accuse Republicans of doing by attempting to suppress the vote.

I have to admit, for the first time in my adult life, I’m a man without a candidate. There are no major party conservatives left running, and so I am actively supporting no one. I’ve got no dog in this hunt, and I am thoroughly enjoying watching the Democrat Party tear itself apart.
My hope is that Hillary and Obama remain close in the delegate count, with neither candidate capturing a majority before the convention. That way, they can continue to go after each other the whole summer. The scary thing is, one of these candidates might wind up being our next president, but for the time being, man, oh man, I sure am having a blast.
Today’s Lebanon Democrat column: “SBC may buy into global warming hoax”
There is a movement afoot within the Southern Baptist Convention to buy into the global warming hoax. Last year, the SBC adopted a resolution stating that efforts to regulate greenhouse gas emissions were dangerous and that there was not enough scientific evidence to support the idea of global warming. That was a good approach.
But this year, some of the most influential leaders within the SBC have put forth “A Southern Baptist Declaration on the Environment and Climate Change” to call for Christians to take care of the planet.
Craig Christina, who pastors the First Baptist Church in Jackson, Tennessee, recognizes that it’s a risk to take a stand in favor of global warming because of the SBC’s relationship with the GOP.
“But it’s a matter of conscience. It doesn’t really matter what either party believes. What matters is that we’re to be good stewards of God’s creation.”
More than 40 pastors, professors, and others signed the declaration, calling for a “unified moral voice.” It also asked believers to remember that to leave the problem to the secular world is to “shirk from our responsibility to be salt and light. The time for timidity regarding God’s creation is no more.”
Ugh.
There are at least three reasons why the SBC would be making a grave error by jumping onboard the global warming hoax. First, the apostle Paul instructed believers in Romans 12:2 to “Be not conformed to this world….” By this, Paul warned against getting caught up in the desires of the secular culture, and to instead focus on the eternal. The late Glenn Weekley, who pastored the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, Tennessee, once warned his congregation about the “whim of false doctrine” that comes and goes with great regularity. This is exactly what global warming is.
Second, by signing onto the global warming hoax, the SBC would unwittingly align itself with those who buy into evolutionary thinking, where temperatures are “pre-cast” hundreds of thousands or even millions of years ago, even though a literal reading of Genesis places the age of the earth at just a few thousand years. Indeed, most who have bought into global warming also buy into evolution. Both global warming and evolution are bad science that require some measure of religious faith to accept, because factual analyses destroy them.
Third, and perhaps most important, signing onto global warming and reducing carbon emissions in order to be good stewards of the planet reveals a complete misunderstanding of global warming. Global warming has nothing to do with taking care of the planet. Global warming is simply a means the left is using to grow government, raise taxes, and take away many of our freedoms.
For example, last month it was revealed by the four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, the University of Alabama-Huntsville, and Remote Sensing Systems) that over the past year, global temperatures have cooled by 0.65C to 0.75C — a value large enough to wipe out most of the warming recorded over the past 100 years — all in one year’s time. For all four sources, it’s the single fastest temperature change ever recorded, either up or down.
If global warming were really about saving the planet, such news would have been welcomed by people like Al Gore. But this inconvenient truth has been ignored, and the prophets of global warming are still preaching it. Global warming long ago ceased to be scientifically-motivated — if ever it was — and is now nothing more than a tool used by liberals to spread liberalism — a set of ideas that is anathema to Christianity.
Those who espouse global warming do so with religious-like zeal, and even refer to their cause as a moral and spiritual issue. After all, global warming has all the components of a religion. It has a Garden of Eden (the world before the combustible engine), sin (excessive energy use), churches (public schools and halls of government), a high priest and prophet (Al Gore), sales of indulgences (carbon credits), plagues (future floods, droughts, and other catastrophes), prophecy (100-year weather forecasts), and a path to salvation (the Kyoto Treaty), just to name a few.
In other words, global warming is a false religion, where man is god, because man is supposedly capable of modifying the weather and wreaking catastrophes that have heretofore been relegated as “acts of God.” The worst thing the Bible-believing people at the SBC could do is to align themselves with these hucksters.
Senate don’t go quack quack no more
David Mamet
I’d observed that lust, greed, envy, sloth, and their pals are giving the world a good run for its money, but that nonetheless, people in general seem to get from day to day; and that we in the United States get from day to day under rather wonderful and privileged circumstances — that we are not and never have been the villains that some of the world and some of our citizens make us out to be, but that we are a confection of normal (greedy, lustful, duplicitous, corrupt, inspired — in short, human) individuals living under a spectacularly effective compact called the Constitution, and lucky to get it.
Mamet’s intellectual journey does prove that open-minded people can and do turn from liberalism and to the truth.
Hillary in Bosnia — she “misspoke”
According to the highly trustworthy Associated Press, “Hillary Rodham Clinton’s campaign said she ‘misspoke’ last week when saying she had landed under sniper fire during a trip to Bosnia as first lady in March 1996. She later characterized the episode as a ‘misstatement’ and a ‘minor blip.’”
How about “she lied.”
Hillary in Bosnia — an unbelievable tale of heroism
Separation of church and state for thee, but not for me
B. Hussein Obama’s church is the liberal Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, pastored by the racist Dr. Jeremiah Wright. Wright preaches a message of black separatism and is a racist in every sense of the word. The UCC is one of the most liberal denominations there is. They ordain practicing homosexuals, support slaughtering babies, and preach the social Gospel of the religious left, having abandoned the inspiration of the Word and preaching the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. …
A modern day foe of God, Barry Lynn of Americans United for Separation of Church and State is ordained thru this liberal and ungodly denomination. Lynn has made it his life’s work to try and silence and destroy true works of God, and last year came after Liveprayer for my stand on satanic cult member Mitt Romney, by trying to get the IRS to take away our tax-exempt status. His efforts failed because we did nothing wrong. The fact is, Lynn has tried to get the IRS to revoke the tax-exempt status of over 70 churches and ministries over the years, and has failed to be successful even once!
What an insightful post. Barry Lynn isn’t going after Jeremiah Wright because they are ordained by the same liberal denomination. This is a perfect expose on the hypocrisy of people like Barry Lynn, who try to use the power of government to silence conservative Christians, but have no problem with liberal theology being preached from the pulpit, and have no problem when Democrat candidates for office use the pulpit to campaign.
Today’s Lebanon Democrat column: “Planned Parenthood’s mission is diabolical”
Lila Rose, a pro-life student and reporter at UCLA, recently conducted an undercover investigation designed to expose Planned Parenthood. With the help of an actor, she contacted Planned Parenthood clinics in seven states, asking if they would be willing to accept a monetary donation specifically for the abortion of black children.
Every single clinic agreed. Not one Planned Parenthood employee objected to or even questioned the offer, even when the actor insisted that the purpose was to “lower the number of black people” in America. When he telephoned an Ohio branch, he was told that Planned Parenthood “will accept the money for whatever reason.”
A portion of the transcript from the actor’s telephone call to the Idaho clinic follows:
Actor: …I really faced trouble with affirmative action, and I don’t want my kids to be disadvantaged against black kids.
Planned Parenthood: Yes, absolutely.
Actor: And we don’t, you know, we just think the less black kids out there the better.
Planned Parenthood: (Laughs) Understandable, understandable… This is the first time I’ve had a donor call and make this kind of request, so I’m excited and want to make sure I don’t leave anything out.
This is not as surprising as one might think. Planned Parenthood has a history of devaluing human life that has been ingrained since its earliest days. Margaret Sanger, who founded Planned Parenthood in 1921, advanced the concept of “race hygiene” through “negative eugenics” — an attempt to reduce the fertility of “dysgenic” groups. She considered the unchecked multiplication of the “unfit” to be “the greatest present menace to civilization.”
Planned Parenthood’s diabolical mission runs even deeper than racism, however. The nation’s largest abortion provider simply views unborn human life as disposable, and profits from the killing of the most defenseless among us. It does so under the guise of “choice” and “women’s health.”
Abortion has a number of physical and psychological effects on women that the left pushes under the rug. For example, medical research has indicated that induced abortion can adversely affect a woman’s future risk of breast cancer. It has also been clearly shown that induced abortion in young women causes the loss of a protective effect from a first, full-term pregnancy which, when followed by a delay in child bearing, has the net effect of an increased risk for breast cancer.
Also, a “pro-choice” research team in New Zealand, analyzing data from a 25-year period, found that abortion in young women is associated with increased risks of major depression, anxiety disorder, suicidal behaviors, and substance dependence.
For another illustration that abortion-rights advocates really don’t care about women’s health, one has to look no further than the U.S. Senate. Last week, the Democrat-led upper chamber rejected an amendment that would have included pregnant women and their unborn children in the SCHIP program. Now, Democrats turning down a social program is the equivalent of conservative Republicans turning down a tax cut, especially since Democrats are all about women’s health. But with Democrats, the health of women who choose life is apparently of little value.
What about the argument of aborting pregnancies that result from rape, incest, or to save the life/health of the mother? According to Tennessee Right to Life, 93% of abortions are performed as a means of birth control, 1% are the result of rape or incest, 3% for fetal abnormality, and 3% to save the life/health of the mother. So when abortion-rights advocates claim that abortion MUST remain legal for cases of rape, incest, or the life/health of the mother, remember that 96% of abortions are performed for OTHER reasons than these.
It is worth mentioning that Planned Parenthood receives some $300 million in federal funding as a part of Title X family planning services. Planned Parenthood is prohibited by law from using Title X money to provide abortions, but it can also be argued that receiving taxpayer funding frees up other money to provide abortions. At any rate, the American taxpayer is subsidizing the nation’s largest abortion provider — the same organization that went to court to try and stop Tennesseans from using our own money to support pro-life causes through the sale of “Choose Life” license plates.
Forget about the concept of “choice,” and even the noble cause of protecting women’s health. There’s nothing healthy about abortion, for the unborn or the mother. Aside from the health and psychological risks associated with abortion, 96% of all abortions are performed as a matter of convenience. And when women’s health is considered, it’s only the health of women who choose abortion that the left pretends to champion.
Political catchwords such as “choice” and “women’s health” are only employed to make abortion seem palatable. When you peel away the political language, however, you can see abortion for what it really is: a callous disregard for the most defenseless human beings — the unborn. As conservative columnist Peggy Noonan once wrote, “No party can long endure, or could possibly flourish, with the unfettered killing of young humans as the thing that holds it together. … Someday years from now we will see abortion’s final victim, and it will turn out to be the once-great Democratic Party….”
