Why are the Memphis Grizzlies still so bad?

I wish I knew. The Grizzlies are now 1-6 following a lackluster 5-game road trip during which they went 0-5, culminating in a three-point loss against the Los Angeles Clippers last night.
This was supposed to be the year the Grizzlies climbed out of the cellar. Following records of 22-60, 22-60, and 24-58 the last three seasons, and three years’ worth of lottery picks, you can’t help but get better, right? Aside from the draft, the Grizzlies greatly improved themselves off-season with the acquisitions of Zach Randolph and Allen Iverson. Except they don’t seem to be improved at all.
Rudy Gay has turned into a superstar, averaging 22.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, O.J. Mayo is averaging 18.0 points per game in just his second season, and Marc Gasol, also in his second season, is playing near the level of his older brother Pau, averaging 15.4 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. The Grizzlies are averging 105.9 points per game as a team (sixth in the league), which would have been unheard of just a year ago. And we still can’t win.
Come on, the team is more loaded now than at any time during the last 4 years, and we’re no better off in the standings. What the heck is going on in Memphis?
