Why not agree to ban hurricanes and tsunamis while they’re at it?

without comments

President Obama and other G-8 leaders have decided what temperature they want the earth to be. This is really groundbreaking, that a group of leaders can come together and dictate the weather. I wish they would expand their scope and place limitations on hurricanes, tsumanis, volcanoes, and earthquakes, since President Obama and his counterparts have become powerful enough to control Mother Nature.

President Barack Obama joined other leaders of the industrialized world Wednesday in backing new targets for battling global warming. But the wealthy nations were unable to persuade leaders of developing countries to commit to reductions of their own, and their cooperation is critical to avoiding the worst effects of climate change.

White House officials confirmed that Obama agreed to language supporting a goal of keeping the world’s average temperature from rising more than 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

Algore drifts even farther off the deep end

without comments

No commentary needed here. Algore’s lunacy pretty much speaks for itself.

The former US Vice-President accused governments around the world of exploiting ignorance about the dangers of global warming to avoid taking difficult decisions.

Speaking in Oxford at the Smith School World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment, sponsored by The Times, Mr Gore said: “Winston Churchill aroused this nation in heroic fashion to save civilisation in World War Two. We have everything we need except political will, but political will is a renewable resource.”

Mr Gore admitted that it was difficult to persuade the public that the threat from climate change was as urgent as that from Hitler.

“The level of awareness and concern among populations has not crossed the threshold where political leaders feel that they must change,” he said. “The only way politicians will act is if awareness raises to a level to make them feel that it’s a necessity.”

The only thing I can add is, if this is such a desperate situation, how come Algore continues to live such a lavish, carbon-rich lifestyle where he flies all over the world and consumes some 20 times the amount of energy as the average American family?

Cap-and-tax: green Marxism

without comments

John Griffing writing at American Thinker, exposes cap-and-tax for what it is: a con job. I’ve always said, and will continue to assert, that global warming is nothing more than a vehicle employed by the left to grow government and raise taxes. Human beings haven’t warmed the planet, and passing legislation won’t cool it back off. Liberals exist to take away our freedoms and limit our economic choices. Global warming is simply the vehicle they have chosen to take them to that destination.

But global warming is finally coming under the scrutiny it deserves. Not only are NASA satellites showing a cooling trend, but 700 scientists-to the UN’s 50-have come out in opposition to the patently false claims of the global warming lobby.

Most damning, Harvard meteorologists have been unable to replicate the findings of the UN’s International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) without the use of a technique called “data-padding.” The IPCC actually admitted to engaging in this deceptive practice. Without this padding, the infamous warming trend falls by several degrees. In essence, the IPCC and its primary source manipulated data (dare we say “lied”?) to produce a desired result.

If global warming is a scientific hoax, a fact that now seems incontrovertible, then why have President Obama and Congress advanced such drastic and costly legislation to address this nonexistent crisis? One might conclude that HR 2454, The American Clean Energy and Security Act, exists for no other purpose than to destroy the American economy as we know it and bring it all under government control.

I sure hope he’s right

with one comment

Senator Jim Inhofe has pronounced cap-and-tax DOA in the Senate.

U.S. Jim Inhofe, who earlier said a criminal investigation “probably should be’’ conducted into allegations the EPA suppressed a climate change report, conceded Tuesday he is not qualified to make that determination.

“I have no way of knowing,’’ the Oklahoma Republican said.

Inhofe, however, stood by his prediction that a historic climate change bill narrowly approved by the House last week faces certain defeat in the Senate.

“It’s dead in the water,’’ he said.

A day late and a dollar short

without comments

On a day when the U.S. House of Representatives was closing in on passing cap-and-trade, we learn that the number of global warming skeptics is growing, not just in the U.S., but across the world.

The number of skeptics, far from shrinking, is swelling. Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe now counts more than 700 scientists who disagree with the U.N. — 13 times the number who authored the U.N.’s 2007 climate summary for policymakers. Joanne Simpson, the world’s first woman to receive a Ph.D. in meteorology, expressed relief upon her retirement last year that she was finally free to speak “frankly” of her nonbelief. Dr. Kiminori Itoh, a Japanese environmental physical chemist who contributed to a U.N. climate report, dubs man-made warming “the worst scientific scandal in history.” Norway’s Ivar Giaever, Nobel Prize winner for physics, decries it as the “new religion.” A group of 54 noted physicists, led by Princeton’s Will Happer, is demanding the American Physical Society revise its position that the science is settled. (Both Nature and Science magazines have refused to run the physicists’ open letter.)

If only the number of skeptics were growing in the U.S. Congress. Unfortuantely, it appears that the global warming hoax is about to be written into public policy. Indeed, ignorance is an expensive commodity.

No snow in D.C. tomorrow

without comments

Speaker of State Nancy Pelosi has told Al Gore to stay home and not come to the capitol to pitch the cap-and-trade bill. Given the Gore Effect, where the weather suddenly turns colder whenever Al Gore visits, I guess the most powerful woman in America didn’t want the prospect of snow in June while trying to ride the global warming hoax. That wouldn’t look too good.

Has anyone actually read this thing?

without comments

The cap-and-trade legislation that Democrats are trying to fast-track has grown to 1,201 pages. They want to vote on it as early as today. Beware any 1,201-page bill that Congress wants to fast-track. Chances are not a single congressman has read the entire bill, which means these people are going to vote on a $845 billion piece of legislation without knowing the details.

Before there was global warming…

with one comment

…there was the pseudo-scientific theory of eugenics that proved to be a costly hoax.

Imagine that there is a new scientific theory that warns of an impending crisis, and points to a way out.

This theory quickly draws support from leading scientists, politicians and celebrities around the world. Research is funded by distinguished philanthropies, and carried out at prestigious universities. The crisis is reported frequently in the media. The science is taught in college and high school classrooms.

I don’t mean global warming. I’m talking about another theory, which rose to prominence a century ago.

Look what we’ve done now

without comments

Global warming alarmists are now claiming that the oceans have sustained some “damage” and, of course, human beings are to blame. Even though there’s no way to predict what will happen with the oceans 30 years from now, and even though there’s not a shred of proof that human beings can permanently alter the oceanic environment, it doesn’t stop the global warming hucksters from making their typically wild claims.

Others testified that the economic toll eventually could be enormous for fishing and other ocean-related industries and for the nation’s coastal communities. Taken together, the ocean and coastal economies, including the Great Lakes , provide more than 50 million jobs and make up nearly 60 percent of the nation’s economy.

“Significant environmental changes, such as sea level and sea temperature rise, oxygen depletion and ocean acidification, will dramatically change the landscape, restructuring an array of natural and physical assets as well as cultural and economic,” said Judith Kidlow of the National Ocean Economics Program. “Over the next 30 years, the nation will see the most significant changes in the ocean and coastal economies since the arrival of industrialization and urbanization.”

I can hardly wait

without comments

The details of ObamaCare are beginning to take shape, and it looks like individual liberty is about to take another hit from President Obama and the Democrats. Aside from all the numbers and the enormous price tag, here’s a curious part of the plan:

President Barack Obama says he’s open to requiring all Americans to buy health insurance, as long as the plan provides a “hardship waiver” to exempt poor people from having to pay.

Obama opposed such an individual mandate during his campaign, but Congress increasingly is moving to embrace the idea.

What part of the Constitution grants the federal government this kind of power? Well, that’s a rhetorical question. It doesn’t. But that hasn’t stopped the left. Remember, the left claims to be pro-choice, yet these people are instead pro-government and anti-individual liberty.

Today’s Lebanon Democrat column: “The new global warmingspeak”

without comments

A group calling itself ecoAmerica believes global warming alarmists need to adopt a new lingo in order to sell more Americans on the global warming hoax.

Instead of dire warnings about global warming, the firm advises that global warming hucksters instead talk about “our deteriorating atmosphere.”

It also advises that we drop discussions of carbon dioxide and instead say “moving away from the dirty fuels of the past.”

Don’t confuse people with cap and trade. Use terms like “cap and cash back” or “pollution reduction refund.”

EcoAmerica has been conducting research for several years in order to find new ways to frame global warming issues and build public support for environmental legislation. The research parallels marketing studies by oil companies, utilities, and coal mining interests that are trying to “green” their image with consumers and influence public policy.

There is a reason global warming alarmists are searching for a new lingo. The American public is catching on to the fact that global warming is a hoax. A Pew Research Center poll conducted in January found that global warming ranked dead last among 20 voter concerns.

“We know why it’s lowest,” said Robert Perkowitz of ecoAmerica. “When someone thinks of global warming, they think of a politicized, polarized argument. When you say ‘global warming,’ a certain group of Americans think that’s a code word for progressive liberals, gay marriage and other such issues.”

Here’s another recommendation from ecoAmerica: “energy efficiency” makes people think of shivering in the dark. Instead, it is more effective to speak of “saving money for a more prosperous future.”

It’s also time to drop the term “the environment” and talk about “the air we breathe, the water our children drink.”

Also, global warming hucksters are to use inspirational American lingo such as freedom, prosperity, independence, and self-sufficiency. This is really ironic, since the global warming hoax is designed to produce just the opposite. Remember, global warming is simply a mechanism leftists are using to grow government, raise taxes, and micromanage our lives. Doing so will place limits on our freedom, prosperity, independence, and self-sufficiency, so these people actually mean the opposite of what they say. (According to the Heritage Foundation, cap and trade will reduce the nation’s GDP by $7.4 trillion, raise electricity rates by 90%, and raise gasoline prices by 74%.)

Finally, Mr. Perkowitz agrees that we should drop “global warming” in favor of “climate change.”

This tells you everything you need to know about global warming. It is a political issue, not a scientific one. Science actually refutes global warming. After all, the earth hasn’t warmed in more than a decade. And dire climate predictions made several decades in advance simply aren’t credible, because meteorologists cannot reliably predict the weather beyond a week or so.

Scientific issues don’t require a change in lingo in order influence public opinion. That’s strictly politics. Science is what it is, and scientific terms are what they are. They don’t need massaging.

Aside from the political aspects of global warming, it has also become a tidy profit-making machine for those who promote the latest fad of “going green.”

In a recent hearing on cap and trade legislation before the House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee, Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn had the enviable pleasure of questioning Al Gore about his financial stake in the global warming hoax.

Al Gore is a partner in the firm Kleiner Perkins, which has invested about $1 billion in some 40 companies that would benefit from cap and trade legislation, which is the primary global warming bill being considered by the U.S. Congress.

Congresswoman Blackburn asked the reasonable question “Is the legislation that we are discussing here today, is that something that you are personally going to benefit from?”

Al Gore was indignant. “I believe that the transition to a green economy is good for our economy and good for all of us. And I have invested in it, but every penny I have made I have put into a non-profit alliance for climate protection to spread awareness of why we have to take on this challenge. And Congresswoman, if you believe that the reason I have been working on this issue for 33 years is because of greed, you don’t know me.”

Actually, Mr. Gore, that is exactly what we do believe. To quote Tennessee political analyst, radio personality, and blogger Terry Frank, “Gore has profited handsomely, as we know he went from a paltry millionaire to a 100-millionaire very quickly. He didn’t grow the portfolio by giving it all away.”

If only I had been there to ask a question of my own we could have really gotten to the nuts-and-bolts of Al Gore’s enviro-hypocrisy: Mr. Gore, if human activity and over-consumption are detroying the environment, and if you are demanding that we all cut back on our energy use, why do you insist on flying all over the planet, and why does your Belle Meade home use 20 times the energy as the average family dwelling?

Until we see enviro-hypocrites like Al Gore and other leftists who demand sacrifices from the rest of us make sacrifices of their own in order to save our planet-in-peril, believe me, dear readers, we have absolutely nothing to fear environmentally, but everything to fear politically.

Not a shred of evidence

without comments

A study trying to prop up the global warming hoax claims that climate change kills 315,000 people a year. There’s not a shred of proof out there that supports this claim, which is pretty much how it is with global warming in general.

Climate change kills about 315,000 people a year through hunger, sickness and weather disasters, and the annual death toll is expected to rise to half a million by 2030, a report said on Friday.

The study, commissioned by the Geneva-based Global Humanitarian Forum (GHF), estimates that climate change seriously affects 325 million people every year, a number that will more than double in 20 years to 10 percent of the world’s population (now about 6.7 billion).

Economic losses due to global warming amount to over $125 billion annually — more than the flow of aid from rich to poor nations — and are expected to rise to $340 billion each year by 2030, according to the report.

What global warming hucksters won’t acknowledge is that hunger, sickness, and weather disasters have always been around, and have always killed people. It’s an unfortunate reality that has always existed. The notion that the world was a pristine Garden of Eden free of famine and natural disasters before we began burning fossil fuels is absurd, yet global warming hucksters would have us believe just that.

The Associated Press: Pelosi appeals for China's help on climate change

with one comment

Speaker of State Nancy Pelosi, the most powerful woman in America, is in China trying to save the planet.

In answering a question from a student about how Pelosi was going to get Americans to cut back on their carbon emissions, the leading Democratic lawmaker said it was important to educate children on how to conserve energy and for citizens to build more environmentally friendly homes.

“We have so much room for improvement,” she said. “Every aspect of our lives must be subjected to an inventory … of how we are taking responsibility.”

Every aspect of our lives must be subjected to an inventory? You know the ChiComs loved that line. Well, you go first Madame Speaker. Let’s see a line-by-line inventory of your life first. Ha! Don’t count on that. Remember, global warming is all about liberals in government micromanaging every aspect of YOUR life — not their own.

Obama wants YOU to paint your roof white

without comments

Will the incessant meddling and micromanaging never end? Now the Obama administration wants us to paint our roofs white in order to combat the global warming hoax.

US Energy Secretary Steven Chu said Tuesday the Obama administration wanted to paint roofs an energy-reflecting white, as he took part in a climate change symposium in London.

The Nobel laureate in physics called for a “new revolution” in energy generation to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

But he warned there was no silver bullet for tackling climate change, and said a range of measures should be introduced, including painting flat roofs white.

The only “new revolution” that would be worthwhile would be to throw these people out of office and get government out of our lives.

The nuts-and-bolts of cap-and-trade

without comments

Blue Collar Muse manages to boil the Democrats’ cap-and-trade legislation down to this succinct bullet:

If Democrats really believe in America First as they say they do and which others question, why are they pushing a plan that will “… reduce the nation’s GDP by $7.4 trillion, raise electricity rates 90 percent and gasoline prices 74 percent”?

Of course, Democrats don’t believe in America First. They believe in Government First. They usurp power by stripping away individual liberty. Economically, this means raising taxes on the taxpayers, and raising the cost-of-living for consumers. The end result is reduced economic liberty, which limits the economic choices Americans can make. Don’t ever believe Democrats are looking out for you, even if you’re the “little guy” Democrats pretend to champion. They’re out for you, too, under the guise that they can make better choices for your life than you can.

Plug in your iPod, warm the planet

Some people have way too much time at their disposal.

Electronic gadgets already account for about 15 percent of household electric consumption, a share that is rising rapidly as the number of these gadgets multiplies. Last year, the world spent $80 billion on electricity to power all these household electronics, the IEA said.

Most of the increase in consumer electronics will be in developing countries, where economic growth is fastest and ownership rates of gadgets is the lowest, Waide said.

“This will jeopardize efforts to increase energy security and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases” blamed for global warming, the agency said.

Losing the PR campaign

No wonder the global warming alarmists are trying to change the lingo that is used to discuss global warming. They’re trying to sell the American public on the hoax of global warming, and are finding it increasingly difficult to do so.

Just one-out-of-three voters (34%) now believe global warming is caused by human activity, the lowest finding yet in Rasmussen Reports national surveying. However, a plurality (48%) of the Political Class believes humans are to blame.

Forty-eight percent (48%) of all likely voters attribute climate change to long-term planetary trends, while seven percent (7%) blame some other reason. Eleven percent (11%) aren’t sure.
