Why not agree to ban hurricanes and tsunamis while they’re at it?

without comments

President Obama and other G-8 leaders have decided what temperature they want the earth to be. This is really groundbreaking, that a group of leaders can come together and dictate the weather. I wish they would expand their scope and place limitations on hurricanes, tsumanis, volcanoes, and earthquakes, since President Obama and his counterparts have become powerful enough to control Mother Nature.

President Barack Obama joined other leaders of the industrialized world Wednesday in backing new targets for battling global warming. But the wealthy nations were unable to persuade leaders of developing countries to commit to reductions of their own, and their cooperation is critical to avoiding the worst effects of climate change.

White House officials confirmed that Obama agreed to language supporting a goal of keeping the world’s average temperature from rising more than 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

Obama to Ahmadinejad: screw you

without comments

Here’s one apology President Obama won’t be giving:

President Barack Obama scoffed at the idea that he should apologize to Iran’s leaders for criticizing their violent crackdown on demonstrators and said Friday it was President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who must answer to his own people.

Standing next to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Obama said the United States and Germany share “one voice” in condemning the Iranian effort to crush dissent. He said Iran’s leaders cannot hide the “outrageous” behavior of clamping down violently on their people.

“We see it and we condemn it,” Obama said.

Way to go, Mr. President.

Where’s the love?

without comments

I thought the election of Barack Obama was going to repair our standing in the world after President Bush ran America’s image in the tank. Well, President Obama isn’t winning any popularity contests in Iran, and he’s not winning any in North Korea. Of course, these really aren’t nations you want as friends, at least if you value freedom and liberty.

The condemnation by Obama, who had been trying to improve ties with Iran before the election, prompted Ahmadinejad to accuse Obama of behaving like his predecessor and say there was not much point in talking to Washington unless Obama apologized.

“I tell (the United States) that all those people who voted and all the Iranian nation will stand against them,” the Iranian president, who was elected for a second four-year term, said in response to Obama’s comments.

Two weeks after: Iran rallies fade, elite split – Yahoo! News

Punching their fists into the air and shouting “Let’s crush them!” some 100,000 North Koreans packed Pyongyang’s main square Thursday for an anti-U.S. rally as the communist regime promised a “fire shower of nuclear retaliation” for any American-led attack.

Several demonstrators held up a placard depicting a pair of hands smashing a missile with “U.S.” written on it, according to footage taken by APTN in Pyongyang on the anniversary of the day North Korean troops charged southward, sparking the three-year Korean War in 1950.

North Korean troops will respond to any sanctions or U.S. provocations with “an annihilating blow,” one senior official vowed — a pointed threat as an American destroyer shadowed a North Korean freighter sailing off China’s coast, possibly with banned goods on board.

Nicolas Sarkozy declares France a burqa-free zone

with 3 comments

Three cheers for France’s conservative president, who isn’t afraid of offending Muslims by saying what needs to be said. If only we could get this back home.

“In our country, we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity,” Sarkozy said to extended applause at the Chateau of Versailles, southwest of Paris.

“The burqa is not a religious sign, it’s a sign of subservience, a sign of debasement — I want to say it solemnly,” he said. “It will not be welcome on the territory of the French Republic.”

Dozens of legislators have called for creating a commission to study a possible ban in France, where there is a small but growing trend of wearing the full-body garment despite a 2004 law forbidding it from being worn in public schools.

Will the U.S. Olympic hockey team win the gold in 2010?

without comments

The similarities between the Obama presidency and the Carter presidency are beginning to line up. President Obama defeated a weak GOP candidate in 2008, just as President Carter did in 1976. The economy is taking a sharp turn south, just as it did during the Carter presidency. And President Obama appears to have a big Iran problem on his hands, just as Carter did.

Obama wasn’t a hit with the Castros after all

without comments

On his recent trip to the island communist dictatorship of Cuba, President Obama apparently found a couple of kindred souls among the Castro brothers, but, as it turns out, he botched what was to have been a potential reconciliation with them.

Obama responded at the Summit of the Americas by saying Washington seeks a new beginning with Cuba. But as he prepared to leave the summit Sunday, Obama also called on Cuba to release political prisoners and reduce taxes on remittances from the U.S.

That appeared to enrage Fidel Castro, 82, who wrote in an essay published Wednesday that Obama “without a doubt misinterpreted Raul’s declarations.”

The former president appeared to be throwing a dose of cold water on growing expectations for improved bilateral relations — suggesting Obama had no right to dare suggest that Cuba make even small concessions. He also seemed to suggest too much was being made of Raul’s comments about discussing “everything” with U.S. authorities.

Who are you calling “cruel?”

without comments

Fidel Castro, communist dictator of Cuba, is calling on the U.S. to lift its cruel embargo. Sure thing, Fidel, we’ll lift our cruel embargo as soon as you lift the cruel hand of tyranny you have used to strangle your people for the last half-century.

Castro responded in an online column Monday night. The ailing former president wrote that the U.S. had announced the repeal of “several hateful restrictions,” but had stopped short of real change.

“Of the blockade, which is the cruelest of measures, not a word was uttered,” he wrote.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum

without comments

U.S. sailors recently busted out their captain after he was taken captive by Somali pirates, raising awareness of the scourge of piracy as it exists today.

President Barack Obama promised Monday to work with other nations “to halt the rise of piracy,” while Somali pirates vowed revenge for the deaths of three colleagues shot by snipers during the daring high-seas rescue of an American sea captain.

The pirates’ threat raised fears for the safety of some 230 foreign sailors still held hostage in more than a dozen ships anchored off lawless Somalia.

Sunday’s nighttime operation was a remarkable achievement for snipers on a rolling warship in choppy seas, but few experts believe the victory will quell a rising tide of attacks in one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

I have a simple solution to deter future acts of piracy: torpedoes.

I’m sorry, so sorry, please accept my apology

without comments

President Obama has wrapped up his whirlwind let’s-go-apologize-to-the-world-for-America-being-America tour, where he sucked up to the leaders of a number of inferior nations that have nowhere near America’s power, wealth, and generosity.

Apparently, the British media are far superior to the U.S. media, at least in terms of reporting on Obama, because the British media are far more capable in reporting the truth about Obama. The American media are so wrapped up in portraying a messianic image of Obama that they will suppress the truth about our president. The Brits don’t buy the messianic version. They see Obama as more or less a buffoon.

Here’s just one example:

Allegedly the most charismatic politician in the world, Mr Obama was a disappointment. It sounded as though he had a blocked nose and so his lack of energy may have been a symptom of a cold. Jet lag, too. He probably wished he could have stayed in bed.

He spoke slowly, in a meandering manner. Some might say that he was thoughtful and professorial. Others might call his manner circuitous, even yarny. Am I saying that he was a bore? Oh dear. I find that I possibly am.

Yes, folks, the man who was going to unite us all and repair America’s image (not to mention lower the sea level) has not impressed those sophisticated Europeans, you know, the Europeans whose opinions the American left values more than those of your typical American.

So do we need to begin apologizing to the world for Barack Obama? Perhaps so.

President Obama bows to the king of Saudi Arabia

Good grief. The most powerful man in the world actually bowed to the king of Saudi Arabia during the G20 summit in London last week. And they say George W. Bush humiliated the U.S. This is where inexperience leads you. Didn’t they teach protocol at community organizer school?

Some people still value their rights and their privacy

without comments

If only this would catch on in more places across the used-to-be free world:

You’re never far from a camera in Britain, a country that has accepted the presence of millions of surveillance cameras in its streets, shopping centers and public spaces.

But for the villagers of Broughton in southern England, the roving eye of Google was one camera too far.

A gaggle of residents in the affluent hamlet formed a human chain to turn away a car shooting images for Google Street View, the popular service that allows Internet users to see high-quality photos of houses and streets around the world.

Broughton’s tiny victory for people power is the latest sign of concern about the U.S. Internet juggernaut’s collection of vast amounts of data, from satellite photos on Google Earth to the searches performed by Internet users and the shopping habits of e-mail users.

“I was upstairs when I spotted the camera car driving down the lane,” villager Paul Jacobs told The Times of London newspaper. “My immediate reaction was anger: How dare anyone take a photograph of my home without my consent?”

So whose picture would be on the currency?

without comments

The U.N. wants the world to go to a single currency, with them in charge of monetary policy, I’m sure. Somehow I have the feeling that the U.S. would get the short end if this ever came to pass.

A UN panel of expert economists pressed Thursday for a new global currency reserve scheme to replace the volatile, dollar-based system and for coordinated steps by rich countries to stimulate their economies.

“A new Global Reserve System — what may be viewed as a greatly expanded SDR (Special Drawing Rights), with regular or cyclically adjusted emissions calibrated to the size of reserve accumulations, could contribute to global stability, economic strength and global equity,” the panel said.

As part of several recommendations to tackle the global financial crisis, the panel also noted recovery would require all developed countries, in the short term, to take “strong, coordinated and effective actions to stimulate their economies.”

After all that, the world still doesn’t love us

without comments

During the Bush presidency, liberals were obsessed with being liked by the rest of the world. They whined that George W. Bush had trashed our reputation, and that we needed a president who would restore our good standing with other nations. Well, liberals, keep looking for your PR guy. President Obama’s international reputation appears to be in the sewer, too.

Only nine months ago, when he addressed an estimated 200,000 people in Germany, Barack Obama was heralded as “president of the world.”

But now that he’s president of the United States, the world doesn’t appear to be following up on its endorsement.

From France to Poland, from the Czech Republic to China, many nations are rebuffing the president and offering little wiggle room for him to negotiate economic and security policies.

Obama faces his first major international test next week when the world’s largest economies meet at the G20 summit in London.

“I think as the president heads to Europe, he faces a huge public relations disaster,” said Nile Gardiner, director of the conservative Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom.

Liberals are NOT pro-choice

without comments

Liberals are liberals, and it doesn’t matter where they’re from. For the last several years, the left has been trying to shove homosexuality down the throats of those who speak out against things like same-sex marriage, while using liberal-dominated public schools to normalize the deviant behavior of homosexuality, often against the wishes of parents. Of course, liberals know better than parents what’s best for their children. Liberals know what’s best for everyone.

Christian and Muslim parents in London who kept their primary school children away from controversial lessons promoting homosexuality could now face legal action by the local council.

The lessons – part of LGBT History Month – used books such as King and King, promoted by homosexual rights activists to help teach children about homosexual relationships.

Around 30 children were withdrawn from the week of lessons at George Tomlinson Primary School in Waltham Forest, East London.

A Waltham Forest Council spokesman confirmed that the withdrawals are being treated as “unauthorised absences” and that “action has been taken”.

Although the Council refused to say how they plan to punish parents, the Council website says that parents of truant children can be asked to sign a contract, fined on the spot or taken to court.

John Kerry, war hero, senator, and letter carrier

with 2 comments

Senator John Kerry, while on a trip to the Middle East, accepted a letter from the terrorist organization Hamas for President Obama.

Sen. John Kerry accepted a letter for President Barack Obama from Hamas leaders on Thursday, FOX News learned.

A U.N. relief agency official could not say what the contents of the letter were but said U.N. officials passed the letter to Kerry on behalf of the European – and U.S. – designated terror group.

Hamas has denied leaving a letter at the gates of the U.N. headquarters in Gaza.

Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential candidate, was visiting the Gaza Strip on Thursday, along with Democratic Reps. Brian Baird of Washington and Keith Ellison of Minnesota, Congress only Muslim representative.

“Hope” stops at the water’s edge

without comments

Really, I was under the impression that electing Barack Obama would drastically improve our standing in the world, that those in other nations around the globe would look favorably on the U.S. again since President Bush trashed our reputation by fighting his illegal war. But no. Our good friend and ally, Hugo Chavez, does not share Obama’s hope.

But Chavez said frayed ties with Washington were unlikely to improve despite the departure of Bush, who the Venezuelan leader has often called the “devil.”

“I hope I am wrong, but I believe Obama brings the same stench, to not say another word,” Chavez said at a political rally on a historic Venezuelan battlefield.

“If Obama as president of the United States does not obey the orders of the empire, they will kill him, like they killed Kennedy, like they killed Martin Luther King, or Lincoln, who freed the blacks and paid with his life.”

I guess the hope that exudes from Obama’s soon-to-be presidency didn’t make it down to Venezuela. Or Iran.
